Servicing of Air Conditioners
It is a legal requirement of the owner of the air conditioner to ensure it has a regular service. Air conditioning that is not serviced regularly can lead to health hazards being carried by the circulating air. As air conditioning units are a highly effective way to circulate air throughout a given space, this unfortunately can mean that any such hazards are effectively spread throughout an entire workplace, room or home. Poor cleaning of the air conditioning system, leads to dust, dirt, and other small allergenic particles being carried around a space by the circulating air which can exacerbate problems such as asthma, allergies and sinusitis. When bacteria, viruses or fungi such as mould get into the air conditioning system, the hazards become more severe. The most well known disease is Legionnaire’s disease, this is caused by the Legionella bacteria, which lives in water. Legionella is quite common but is usually found in such small numbers as to be harmless. When it makes its way into an air conditioning system and is left unattended, however, it can multiply. Contaminated droplets of water can then be distributed by the air conditioning system, resulting in the spread of Legionnaire’s disease throughout a building. The disease causes flu-like symptoms, and will prove fatal for otherwise healthy people in 10-15% of cases. When properly maintained and used, air conditioning systems remain entirely safe in the vast majority of cases.
Regular servicing can also save money on repairs and energy bills, some quite minor issues can cause major energy usage issues and inefficiencies. All safety checks are important and having a regular service plan in place will pay for itself over time.
We offer an annual or biannual servicing contract
that is designed to reduce the possibility of the breakdown of equipment and increase the efficiency of the unit.
